Unschooling Science: Beam me up into space, Scotty

planetarium

Learning about science is fun especially when you beam up into space. We took a new high-tech space ship around all the planets. The kids even got to fly meters from the sun.  We lost power, our robot got all crazy, and we hit one of Saturn’s many asteroids. We actually visited the Georgia Southern planetarium and did a free show.  It started off with a phone call and NASA asked us to do a mission Continue reading

Star gazing at the beach

Last night we went to the beach to do a little star gazing.  We got there about 8pm and stayed till 10pm and had a blast.  Since we are learning about stars, planets, and solar system, I thought it would be fun to do something different.  One the way to the beach we looked up on the internet some stories about the constellations and how they got in the sky.  The girls played on the Continue reading

Crazy planets experiments and more

We did three more experiments about the stars and crazy planets and this time we did them with a friend. The first experiment the girls held a CD, with the shiny side up, in front of a sunny window and tilted it to see a rainbow. This was to show that white light has all the colors of the rainbow. The second experiment the girls did was making a night vision flash light. The girls Continue reading

We made our books extra fun by cutting the front and Continue reading
