Underground Railroad at Fort Pulaski

It amazes me that many adults and children do not know about the Underground Railroad at Fort Pulaski, much less its history and origins. The Ranger began by telling us ‘there is no train depot here at Fort Pulaski and no tunnels that lead into town’. He went on to tell us information I had never learned in school about the Underground Railroad. The Underground Railroad refers to the efforts of enslaved people seeking freedom by escaping from Continue reading

Melt in Your Mouth Old Kentucky Chocolate Factory tour

Kentucky folks pride themselves on Kentucky basketball, University of Kentucky football, horse racing, and good old Kentucky Chocolate.  If you ask anyone from Kentucky who has the best chocolate, they will all answer, “You haven’t tried chocolate until you tried chocolate from the Old Kentucky Chocolate Factory.” We decided they were right and took a tour of that factory with my Aunt Peggy.   Don Hurt founded Old Kentucky Chocolate over factory 50 years ago, in Continue reading

We started our adventure at Continue reading

Zoo Quest at Oregon Zoo

It is always fun to visit a zoo as our journey takes us across the US.  Today we visited the Oregon Zoo in Portland Oregon.  We actually were staying in Vancouver, WA right across the river mainly because it was cheaper and no one in Oregon had any sites available. This summer at the Oregon Zoo they started a new program to try to teach children and adults how technology affects the environment and animals. Continue reading
