Unschool Science Activity: Learn how to make a Jellyfish Drink or a jellyfish in a bottle

For this weeks Unschool Science Activity we decided to make a Jellyfish Drink.  No you can’t really drink it but its great for showing kids jellyfish.  Also they learn how trash can look like Jellyfish, and see how they move. This is a super easy science activity that you can do with any age child. Actually I got the original idea from my favorite website doitandhow.com, but modified it a bit.

Jellyfish drink

Here is what you will need to make a Jellyfish Drink

  • Zip lock bag
  • 2 Litter Plastic coke bottle
  • Food coloring
  • Scissors
  • Cutting board
  • Super glue

Girls cut off the zipper part of the bag

Cut the sides

Cut off bag that says zip lock

We made the head

Tied it with some string – make sure leave room to get water in head

Cut the bottom half into strips

Fill the head of the jellyfish half way with water

Put food coloring in bottle, add water and jelly fish, put super glue on lid so kids can’t take lid off. I think next time will use a grocery bag, the zip lock bag was a little think, either way it was a lot of fun to make.
