Geocaching – Skidaway Island

Geocaching is a fun treasure hunt that the whole family can do for FREE. All you need is a GPS or better yet the geocaching app on your iPhone. I found out there are over 2 million geocaching places all over the world. Here is basically how it works…

You open up your app and find a geocaching that is near you that you would like to find. Click on the app and away you go – there is a blue dot to tell you where you are and a green dot to tell you where the treasure is. After you find the location of the treasure you use the compass to find the exact location. Then you open the container, look at all the cool stuff other kids have left, pick one item you like and leave the toy you brought, sign the log, click you found it on the app, and your done. That’s it and for fun take the picture of the beautiful area.

I had heard about this through some friends and decided it would be fun to try, and I found one with-in a mile, so off we went. I just told the girls we were going on a treasure hunt and to bring a small toy for someone. I gave the girls the phone and let them tell me where to turn, and we had to make a lot of U turns but that is part of the adventure. Then they used the compass to find the exact spot and we walked past it ten times, being our first time it was really exciting and I think we are going to take daddy this weekend to try again. So if you want something fun to do this summer try it – it was lots of fun.
