It has been a nice and relaxing day at Lake Louisa State Park. We started off by taking a nice leisurely bike ride to the equestrian center. We first checked out the three campsite areas that are here at the park with a total of 60 camp sites and maybe 10-15 cabins. The sites at Lake Louisa State Park are open, very well-kept and the bathrooms are really clean.
Our bike ride at Lake Louisa State Park started with just a short one to check out everything and then Mac asked if we could go to the equestrian center. So we started riding and riding and riding for 3.3 miles (one way) to the equestrian center that we couldn’t even get to unless you had a pass. We ended up at Lake Louisa where we learned a little history about Army First Lieutenant Gilmore that crashed into the lake on his birthday in 1944. He was flying a P-51 Mustang and was on a training mission. They found the wreckage in 2001 because the lake was so low.
The most exciting part of our bike ride was the smoke. The park was doing a control burn of part of the forest and we had to ride right past the area they were burning. The heat was amazing and the smoke was almost unbearable. We also started looking for a geocache but there were tons of huge spiders and the cache was the size of a pill bottle so we gave up, but I we will look for some of the others tomorrow.
